Obtaining Consent to Hospice care for the Unrepresented Incapacitated Individual

• Upon completion, the attendee will be able to describe two possible options for an unrepresented individual who lacks capacity to receive hospice care
• Upon completion, the attendee will be able to work with a SNF interdisciplinary team convened to consider a hospice recommendation for an unrepresented, incapacitated patient
• Upon completion, the attendee will be able to articulate possible options for a healthcare decisionmaker for an unrepresented, incapacitated person who has no appointed healthcare agent or close available family member.

MEET THE PRESENTER

Christine Wilson HEC-C, RN, Attorney | Community Healthcare Ethics

Chris Wilson is a Registered Nurse, Bioethicist, and Attorney. She worked many years as a nurse, starting as a nursing assistant, becoming an LVN and then an RN Director of Nursing in a SNF. She then became an attorney, counseling health care providers and others regarding health care legal issues with an emphasis upon informed consent and bioethics. She is the founder of Community Healthcare Ethics, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing healthcare ethics resources to long term care and other locations outside of the acute care hospital. Chris has a master’s degree in Health Care Ethics from Creighton University and is a Certified Healthcare Ethics Consultant and is a member of, and advisor to, several bioethics committees as well as a frequent speaker for conferences and educational institutions.
