The California Hospice and Palliative Care Association (CHAPCA) is here to help as your hospice and palliative care subject matter experts. CHAPCA provides education, tools, resources and services for our California provider members with the main goal of ensuring that our providers are equipped and compliant to provide high quality hospice and palliative care to patients and families.  The CHAPCA leadership and board members have a collective total of over 300+ years of hospice and palliative care industry experience and we encourage you to utilize our experts for help, just as you would a hospice and palliative care consultant.

  • Sheila Clark, CHAPCA President and CEO sits on National Government Services (NGS) J6 Provider Outreach and Education Advisory Group (POEAG).
  • CHAPCA plays an active role in California Public Policy and legislation advocating for patients, families and providers. We provide regular updates about changes that will impact you and how to prepare for these changes.
  • CHAPCA regularly meets with CMS Region 9, CDPH, DHCS and DMHC to bring our members the guidance they need in order to keep compliant with COP’s and CA Hospice Quality Standards.

Annual Conference & Exposition

The Annual Conference is held each year and is open to hospice and palliative care providers and industry associates.  Please check our Annual Conference webpage for details. 

Annual Meeting

Annually, CHAPCA conducts a meeting of the memberships in conjunction with the conference.  CHAPCA members are invited to participate in this meeting.  This is your opportunity to hear from the leadership and to express your interests.

(While everyone is invited to attend this meeting, only provider members are eligible to vote.)

Achievement Awards

Each year, the California Hospice and Palliative Care Association (CHAPCA) recognizes two outstanding individuals and one program for their contributions to hospice. This is your opportunity to showcase and celebrate your hospice staff and/or volunteer program in front of your peers at the Annual Conference.

The Pierre Salmon Award recognizes an individual who has:

1) made a significant contribution to hospice and/or palliative care in California;

2) promoted the growth and availability of hospice and/or palliative care; and

3) embodies the core values of hospice.

The Gift of the Heart Award honors an individual who has been a hospice volunteer for a minimum of three years. Individuals may be nominated either for one unique project they developed and implemented or for a history of ongoing dedicated service to hospice. Special attention will be given to nominees who have increased community participation in hospice.

The Outstanding Program Achievement Award honors a program or agency that has created and implemented an innovative hospice and/or palliative care program that raises the standard for palliative and end-of-life care; serves as a model for the profession; or creates an awareness of the importance of excellence in serving patients near the end-of-life.

Weatherbee Resouces Hospice Regulatory Boot Camp - sponsored by CHAPCA and Relias

Boot Camp - On-Site Nevada - December 5-7, 2022

Hospices across the country utilize Weatherbee's Boot Camps for orienting new staff and for the on-going training of Executive Directors, Hospice Medical Directors and Team Physicians, Clinical Managers, Corporate Compliance Officers, QAPI Coordinators, Billing / Coding Technicians, the Interdisciplinary Group, and others. Using three case studies, Boot Camp topics include eligibility, assessment, compliant IDG meetings, higher levels of care, medical director engagement, PEPPER, compliance programs and more.

  • CHAPCA is the California resource for those seeking information and services about hospice and palliative care. Provider members have full control over there profile on our list serve. People who call CHAPCA and web surfers seeking hospice and palliative care services or information will be referred to CHAPCA online info directory.
  • The CHAPCA office receives inquiries from patients and families inquiring for more information.  We always promote our hospice providers for services and help provide guidance on how to search for a provider based on our directory.

Career Boutique

CHAPCA  has launched our very own Career Boutique available as a free service for active members.  You're invited to post an opening in your hospice.  You also have the option to upload a resume and apply to openings, just as you would an online recruiting agency.  The career boutique is promoted by CHAPCA and used for positions in the hospice industry.
