Program Overview | Hospice Financial Administration

This program provides a more in-depth and detailed examination of the financial aspects of hospice leadership. Sessions highlight the essentials of integrity management, reporting, and fiscal accountability, giving leaders the insight and tools needed to guide their organizations with confidence. With this comprehensive approach, the program offers a complete understanding of hospice financial management and operations. Although designed with fiscal management and accounting staff in mind, the program is equally valuable for hospice leaders, administrative teams, and clinical managers. Strengthening financial knowledge at every level of leadership ensures that organizations are better prepared to make informed decisions, protect resources, and sustain high-quality care. 

 

CDPH Administrator/Administrator Designee Training Eligibility

This two-day financial administration program meets the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) hospice certification training requirement under California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Section 74880(a)(2)(B).
Administrators and Administrator Designees may apply these program hours toward the required training in financial management, planning, and operations as part of their first-year mandatory education. 

 

Space is limited. This program covers advanced, analytically intensive material, and seats are reserved to ensure participants can fully engage with the depth of the content.

Day One March 26, 2026

Breakfast and Registration 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. 

The Current State and Future Direction of the Hospice Industry

9:00 a.m. – 10:40 a.m. (2 hours)

This program provides a summary of the current conditions and circumstances, including payment mechanisms, impacting hospice providers and the delivery of hospice services. Attendees will see examples of how both proprietary and tax-exempt providers are modifying and expanding services to meet future patient needs, along with organizational changes aimed at securing financial viability. 

Continued Expansion of Enrollment Reporting and Integrity Initiatives and the Impact on the Provision of Service, Administration and Finances

10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (1 hour 15 minutes)

This session will provide an update on the latest changes in Medicare enrollment and what has been learned because of the Medicare Administrative Contractor (“MAC”) review of Enrollment, Revalidation, and Change of Information filings.  Attendees will be able to respond to enrollment application requirements, make revalidation filings, and appropriately address the requirements of other enrollment submissions.  Additionally, attendees will be better prepared for additional integrity initiatives anticipated. 

Lunch 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. 

Preparing or Assisting Others in the Cost Report Preparation

1:00 p.m. – 4:10 p.m. (3 hours 10 minutes)

This session provides a detailed review of cost report preparation, and the data needed for accuracy. Attendees will learn how to provide information to outside consultants in a way that ensures high-quality report submissions. 

Day Two March 27, 2026

Breakfast 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. 

Enhancing Accounting and Financial Records

9:00 a.m. – 10:40 a.m. (1 hour 40 minutes)

This session provides best practices for hospice financial records that support accurate financial statements, management reporting, tax compliance, and cost reporting. 

Optimizing Revenue Cycle: Leveraging Data and Technology to Drive Financial Performance and Margin Growth

10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (1 hour 15 minutes)

This session explores how data and technology can transform revenue cycle management from reactive reporting to proactive performance improvement. Attendees will learn how to strengthen financial performance while supporting mission-driven care. 

Lunch 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. 

Everything CAP

1:00 p.m. – 4:10 p.m. (3 hours 10 minutes)

This comprehensive session on the aggregate payment limitation (CAP) covers computation, report submission, liability monitoring, cash flow planning, and special CAP issues. Case studies will illustrate how to address CAP in acquisitions, denials, and conversions.

 


 

Meet the Main Presenter

Ted Cuppett, CPA brings more than 30 years of experience serving healthcare providers nationwide. He served as the Hospice and Home Health Niche Leader for Dixon-Hughes, PLLC from 2001 to 2010 and has provided extensive accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting services to hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, home health agencies, physician groups, and clinics.

Ted’s professional background includes auditing, reimbursement, strategic and organizational planning, corporate compliance, litigation support, mergers and acquisitions, and tax reporting for both taxable and tax-exempt entities. He is a nationally recognized speaker and author on hospice and healthcare financial issues.

Ted has held multiple leadership roles with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, including service on the Healthcare Expert Panel, the Healthcare Audit and Accounting Guide Revision Task Force, the MCS Executive Committee, and the MCS Practice Standards Subcommittee. He maintains active memberships in the AICPA and the American Health Lawyers Association.


The Health Group, LLC is a registered sponsor with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors.  State Boards of Accountancy have the final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.  Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of Sponsors through its website https://www.nasbaregistry.org/.

 

Attendees can qualify for up-to fourteen (14) hours of continuing professional education.  The program offers attendees 12.0 hours of credit in specialized knowledge and 2.0 hours of credit in accounting.
